Sleepless in Seattle is not romatic. The Meg Ryan character is a hearltess cunt. She goes picking out her china patterns with and accepts an heirloom diamond ring from her fiance and then we are supposed to be HAPPY that she meets Tom Hanks on the Empire State Building? Go to hell! I do like the scene where the two men are retelling the plot of the Dirty Dozen and crying.

Despite the fact she is related to two attorneys AND, here's the kicker, one of the witnesses in the case was her HIGH SCHOOL BOYFRIEND, mah was selected to be on the jury for a 4-week trial!!! That's how we get shit done in Texas, I tell ya.

2:23 pm - I post many things all of a sudden
|
A person I worked with in 2001 called me this afternoon at work and said, "I have someone special here I think you want to talk to." Now, it wasn't so strange that she would call me after 6 years, since we have kept in touch and she came to visit me in 2005 when I lived in Vegas. So, I am thinking it must be Denise, who we used to work with and who has since dropped off the face of the earth.
Well, this is what happened . . .
Person: "Jen?"
Me: "Yyyeah."
Person: "Jen?"
Me: "Mommy?"
Person: "Karen and I are in the same jury pool today! How weird is that?"
Me: "That's pretty weird."
Now, this is Houston, Texas, not some small town in southern Virginia, and Karen and my mom don't even live anywhere close to the same district. So it's doubly strange.
Apparently, my mom heard them question Karen about where she worked and Karen heard my mom say that her daughter is a lawyer working at xyz (they always want to know if they can disqualify you by being anywhere connected to stinkin' lawyers). THEN Karen and Mah managed to sit down next to each other at break (Mah made this seem like a coincidence, but I figure she made sure she sat down next to Karen - haha - that's my Mah).
The moral of the story - I truly know everyone on the planet. (Hardly - but it sounds good).

1:41 pm - Jesus Camp arrives via Netflix to me tomorrow!!! The very long wait is over
|
|
What to expect:
Kids on Fire is a camp the leaders of which admit that are indoctrinating children with evangelical dogma when they are most impressionable (under 13 and preferably between 7 and 9) .
Camp directors compare "Kids on Fire" to militant Palestinian training camps in the Middle East that instill an aggressive Islamist fundamentalism. Children in camouflage and face paint practice war dances with wooden swords and make straight-armed salutes to a soundtrack of Christian heavy metal. We see them weeping and speaking in tongues as they are seized by the Holy Spirit.
The movie visits a church at which the congregation prays in front of a life-size cardboard cutout of President Bush.
among other scary things. . . more day after tomorrow.

11:22 am - Random things because I am avoiding paying my bills
|
1. I'm gonna talk German tonight! Then probably have a dream in German like I did last time where I visited PJ and Axel in Goettingen and PJ's dad was there and PJ and Axel were in wheel chairs for no reason at all and me and PJ's dad pushed them around the city while drinking beers.
2. I'm gonna see Pan's Labyrinth on Thursday!
3. I'm making the funkiest blanket ever made for my brother to match his green couch. The blanket is composed of 1-3" strips of the following colors/consistencies yarn in the following order: fuzzy yellow, velvet verigated yellow and light green, velvet light green, rope-like light green and neon, hairy neon, olive green softness (cross between cashmere and mohair), fuzzy dark green, velvet darker green, repeat from beginning. It is funkier than George Clinton, this blanket is. I call it Thermal Art (c). I am also making a light blue and irridescent blue blanket for my friend Amy but she doesn't know, a green and verigated blanket for Grandmother's north bedroom (she knows), and a black and white poncho for me (it is not pretty).
4. My Netflix queue currently has these series: Red Dwarf, House, Highlander, MASH, Dune miniseries, and Northern Exposure. I also have the documentaries about Wal-Mart, Enron, and Guantanamo, and those standy-bys Super Size Me, Roger and Me, and The Corporation. Viewing enjoyment from my childhood includes Willow, the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and Legend. Movies I always wanted to see but never did: Two Women, Seven Samurai, and Reds. That said, the next movie I will receive is the Best of George Carlin - OH YEAHH!
5. I bought a new pair of white pants last night. They look great, but the material is a little thin, if you know what I'm saying.
6. 2001: A Space Odyssey will be playing on the big screen in February. I am gonna go see it, but I will only watch the first 45 minutes or so, because otherwise my ass will fall asleep and I will snore and get a crick in my neck.
7. Forest Whittaker is not a very good public speaker, but he plays one badass Ugandan dictator. I don't care about Helen Mirren.
8. I will not watch the State of the Union Address tonight.
9. I gave blood for the first time in November. Two days ago I was thinking about how I liked giving blood and one day ago the blood people called to ask me if I would give again. I made them call. I have powers.
10. I do not know how to put things behind a link so you are stuck with this long ramble of completely unimportatnt crap on your friends' pages. All 4 of you!

2:05 pm - Seven Wonders of World, aka Nerdy Post that no one cares about, but I enjoyed myself
|
Some outfit in Portugal is conducting a world-wide voting campaign to name the New Seven Wonders of the World. As I am perennially bored at my job, I spent some time today looking at what wonders were on current permutations of the Wonders of the World lists and compiling my own Top Seven.
The original Ancient Wonders of the World include . . . Great Pyramid of Giza Hanging Gardens of Babylon Temple of Artemis at Ephesus Statue of Zeus at Olympia Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus Colossus of Rhodes Lighthouse of Alexandria
Now, only one of these is retained on my Top Seven because the others were destroyed. Who’s to say they ever existed at all, is my point.
So, we are left with The Great Pyramid of Giza. Six more to go.
Wikipedia lists the official Seven Modern Wonders as . . . Channel Tunnel (the Chunnel, as it were) CN Tower Empire State Building Golden Gate Bridge Itaipu Dam Delta Works Panama Canal
First of all, ALL towers are completely off the list unless you are Petronas Towers I, II, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia standing at a height 1,483 ft (88 stories) or you are perhaps the tallest Freestanding Tower, the Inmost Telkom Tower in Jakarta, Indonesia standing at a height of 1,831 ft and counting (but the Jakarta tower does not make my Top Seven because it is incomplete - I think). Anyway, I’ll allow that the Panama Canal remain because I like stuff with water and it’s older than the African Dam or the Delta Works in the Nethlerlands or the Channel Tunnel (which I’ll grant is pretty cool, but WAY too easy with modern long-drill technologies). Yeah, and the Golden Gate Bridge – forgeddaboutid. It’s only there because some American created the list in the first place. Booooring!
So, now My Top Seven contains . . . Great Pyramid of Giza Petronas Towers I and II Panama Canal
Someone has also created an official Seven Natural Wonders list containing The Grand Canyon Great Barrier Reef Rio de Janeiro harbor Mount Everest Polar Aurora Parícutin volcano Victoria Falls
So, of course the list missed King’s Canyon in Australia and, oh, things like the Amazon Rainforest, but, let’s face it, the whole earth is a natural wonder so inclusions like volcanoes and shit on the Wonders of the World list are just, well, stupid. Let’s presume the world is a wonder in and of itself and get back to the important things . . . like the accomplishments of PEOPLE! I mean, some bullshit list I found included the polar ice caps as a wonder. Yes, I am in awe of the polar ice caps, but I do not wonder how they formed nor ponder how they remain. It's cold at the North Pole. Done. Moving on . . .
The Portugese people have narrowed the field to the following list of 21 wonders that will comprise the New Seven Wonders once voting is complete and announced in Lisbon, Portugal on 07/07/07!!
New Wonders Choices Acropolis Allahambra Angkor Chichen Itza Christ Redeemer in Rio Colosseum Easter Island Statues Eiffel Tower (pa-lease!) Great Wall of China Hagia Sophia Kiyomizu Temple Kremlin Machu Pichu Neuschwanstein (whatever) Petra Pyramids of Giza Statue of Liberty (WHAT?!?!?!) Stonehege Sydney Opera House (who cares?) Taj Mahal Timbuktu
So, Easter Island and Stonehenge get included immediately because they truly are wonders. They definitely make you go wtf mate? Who did dat? Why'd they do dat? Hmm? The Great Wall of China is a no-brainer. It’s long and strong and old and all that stuff and it can be seen from SPACE!
Then it gets dicey.
To recap, we now have on My Top Seven Great Pyramid of Giza Petronas Towers I and II Panama Canal Easter Island Stonehenge Great Wall of China
So one more slot . . . I’m gonna have to lose the Panama Canal because, well, because I wanna. And I will add Chaco Canyon and, drumroll, Petra. Both are incredible feats of architectural and astronomical prowess. Chaco Canyon has the most amazing dry masonry architecture with tiny chinking and perfectly aligned corner windows that illuminate features in the itnerior of the rooms only at certain times of the year (real Indiana Jones type shit right there). Petra is just too damn cool down in a massive fossilized sand dune canyon and friggin carved into the earth, motherf__er!
My Top Seven REAL Wonders of the World Great Pyramid of Giza Petronas Towers I and II Great Wall of China Easter Island Stonehenge Chaco Canyon Petra
I win. The End.

TIGER 3 Animal sign |
You are the lucky charm of all the animals! You have massive amounts of energy, always ready for any challenge. Speaking of challenges, you have a competitive streak a mile wide! Tigers are a tad bit impulsive, so beware you daring tigers, that you don't end up in the ER more times than you can afford. Some lovely traits you posses are: Courage, boldness and optimism. You have many friends, since you love meeting new people. Tigers are natural leaders. You really don't like to be bossed around that's for sure! Bold Tiger, you spend and share money like it grows on trees, but for you it kind of doesn’t matter since you are so lucky. You always manage to come out on top. Looking for love? A Horse or a Dog is your best bet, although Rabbits, Dragons or Pigs will do nicely! Don't turn your back on Monkeys. They are your nemesis!
Below are the actual dates for the year of the Tiger. Jan. 31 1938 - Feb. 18 1939, Feb. 17 1950 - Feb. 5 1951, Feb. 5 1962 - Jan. 24 1963, Jan. 23 1974 - Feb. 10 1975, Feb. 9 1986 - Jan. 28 1987, Jan. 28 1998 - Feb. 15 1999 |
